its hard to come up with words for this blog post. i’ve known jane since we were 18 years old. i was just on break from my first year away at school – i had never been out of the country and here comes this cultured, super fab english gal who spoke so elegantly and proper and she blew me away. i thought to myself no way will this girl ever like me – i’m just ms plain minnesota jane. (ha, jane) but to my shock and amazement we became friends. and i became pretty cool with the boys that summer because my friend had the most amazing accent, not to mention she was purrrrrty….but nonetheless. summer ended. and jane had to go home. but one thing i was soon to learn about jane is she does NOT let miles and oceans separate or end friendships. she is the BEST at staying in touch and over the years we have met up in London, New York, Paris, Tuscany (twice) and of course Minnesota to continue to catch up. and she was even a bridesmaid in my wedding 5 years ago! and then came rowan. this gorgeous boy who seemed almost too perfect…and they fell in love. and i was so happy for them both. as he was perfect. perfect for her. and then they moved away together to hong kong. and my worldy friend became even further from me. and i told her that there is no way she could move to hong kong with him and not get engaged. but he must have heard my thoughts because he proposed. and i couldn’t have been more excited. and not only did i get invited to their wedding but she asked me to photograph it! and it was in tuscany!! a dream come true for this plain gal from MN – although i have been out of the country now…a few times. ;)
so i found myself traveling over 3000 miles by plane, train, bus and taxi to tuscany. and not only was it a wedding in tuscany, but it was a british wedding in tuscany. and the guest list spanned the globe. jane and rowan have friends from everywhere. it’s a tribute to how much they are loved, how kind they are, and how GOOD they are at staying in touch. I met amazing people from Australia, Oman, Hong Kong, London, Paris, Rome and Chicago :)
the ceremony was held in an ancient church – Santa Maria a Chianni in Gambassi Terme. The priest reminded me SO much of the priest that married me and brad 5 years ago- From Nigeria. so so so funny. Loved him. and I loved his little italian mentor who was there and didn’t speak a word of english. and i loved that their reading was in french read by jane’s parisan friend Iris. and I love that it was so much a celebration. the priest involved the guests. he walked up and down the aisles to get his point across. and they signed their marriage license right during the ceremony. and the cute little priest wanted me to take his picture. it was so so fun and memorable. and in europe everyone waits on the bride. no one was on time. jane was running about an hour behind but the priest – well he was also an hour late :)
it was an amazing wedding and an amazing night! thank you so much for letting me be a part of it! and for being a part of my life! xx
and i can cross off one more of my goals that I had for myself this year- to shoot a destination wedding in italy.
